The is no definitive owners manual for being a father. I started this Blog as a way to chronicle my adventures with my daughter, to share any nuggets of wisdom I might gain from being a daddy, and talk about life in the Inland Empire and the activities we share.
Why ieDaddy?
i.e. An abbreviation for id est, a Latin phrase meaning “that is.” It indicates that an explanation or paraphrase is about to follow: “Many workers expect to put in a forty-hour week — i.e., to work eight hours a day.” (Compare e.g.)
dad·dy
(dād’ē) Pronunciation Key
n. pl. dad·dies Informal
A father.
I find that I am many things to my daughter. Jungle gym, pillow, reader of bed time stories, brusher of teeth, and on occasion doctor. At other times someone to go on walks with, to talk to about her day, or explain why the sky is blue.
But it also refers to how my daughter keeps calling my Tim (which is my name), which for her I guess is natural since she hears everyone else doing it. She’s three at the start of this blog, and so I would keep saying to her, “Honey, you are my daughter and that means you get to call by a special name, i.e. Daddy.”
So I am the IE Daddy
Who are you?
That is part of what this blog will talk about. On the surface though, I’m in my mid-thirties, I have one daughter who is 3 and another bundle of joy on the way. I’ve been married for 5 years.I have a dog, a cat, and 4 chickens. I ride the train to get to my job. I have a deep belief that as parents we don’t need to spend a ton of money on crap for our kids. I believe in living simply. I believe in driving my car until the wheels fall off. I am a recovering pack-rat. I still love to go to the county fair. I am all of these things, and I am also my daughter’s daddy.

How beautiful! I love that your blog is being dedicated to the father/daughter relationship!
ps Your category cloud makes me salivate! Perhaps in my future or near-future I can start learning about things like sustainability & organic living!

One afternoon, I was in the backyard hanging the laundry when an old, tired-looking dog wandered into the yard. I could tell from his collar and well-fed belly that he had a home. But when I walked into the house, he followed me, sauntered down the hall and fell asleep in a corner. An hour later, he went to the door, and I let him out. The next day he was back. He resumed his position in the hallway and slept for an hour.
This continued for several weeks. Curious, I pinned a note to his collar: “Every afternoon your dog comes to my house for a nap. ”
The next day he arrived with a different note pinned to his collar: “He lives in a home with ten children – he’s trying to catch up on his sleep.”
I cried from laughter
Sorry, if not left a message on Rules.

Hi there,
So glad I found your blog! I’m also in the I.E. and it’s nice to finally find a great blog from another parent out here. As a mom of 2 it’s really warming to hear your tales as a daddy : )
I TOTALLY agree that we don’t need to spend a lot of $$ on our kids’ stuff, so I want to tell you about an event I’m starting in Ontario called the Empire Kids Consignment Sale. It’s a semi-annual children’s consignment event and it’s a super way to sell your outgrown, unwanted kids items (w/out being there!) and shop 50-70% off retail prices on high quality, new and gently used kids items. You get to recycle, reduce the clutter and re-use great stuff all in one!
It’s Sept.19-21. Please visit http://www.empirekidssale.com for details.
Hope you get a chance to check it out.
Thanks
